Dhanush at Nokia Lumia smartphones launch

Dhanush

True to the theme of 'Amazing Everyday', Nokia celebrated the launch of its Nokia Lumia smartphones in the city with a grand and surprise bash for consumers with an energetic performance by Dhanush and Mir with Bandage at a mall.

The campaign reached its peak with a series of impromptu concerts that were kicked off in Delhi a few days back with the music composer duo Vishal and Shekhar. In Bangalore and Mumbai, consumers were treated to performances by artists Raghu Dixit and Indian Ocean and KK and the evergreen band Parikrama at a mall respectively.

Consumers welcomed and cheered Dhanush and encouraged encores of his popular "Kolaveri Di". A cold Christmas turned out to be fun with audiences singing and dancing to it. A few even quickly captured Dhanush's appearance on their mobiles and shared it with friends online.
Additionally, residents of Delhi were treated to a surprise cricket match with Indian cricketerHarbhajan Singh with shoppers at a mall on Christmas Eve. The match was a modified version of the original sport. Harbhajan Singh chose two players to play with. The match had four balls in an over with runs being awarded for placement of the ball on the net. Finally, team members got to take a picture with the celebrity cricketer post the match. It was an evening of both unexpected delight and amazement that when they realized that they could play cricket with their favourite cricket star.

As part of the 'Amazing Everyday Campaign', Nokia also organized impromptu treats for consumers like a surprise 40 minute helicopter ride over the river Hooghly for some lucky early buyers of the Lumia smartphones and a luxurious BMW pick up and drop between their homes and the nearest Nokia Priority Partner, for consumers who had pre-booked the device. Nokia is invading cities with fascinating and surprising elements making the enthusiasm around the Lumia range contagious. The company is creating, for consumers, unique and interesting moments in their daily lives by adding a bit of a thrill to their mundane routine.

Tokyo, Japan - Sony Corporation ("Sony") and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. ("Samsung") today announced that the two companies have signed agreements to transition the current business relationship with respect to LCD panels.

Under the agreement, Samsung will acquire all of Sony's shares of S-LCD Corporation ("S-LCD"), the two companies' LCD panel manufacturing joint venture, making S-LCD a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung. In consideration for the share transfer, cash consideration of approximately KRW 1.08 trillion* will be paid to Sony by Samsung. Concurrently, the two companies have entered into a new strategic agreement for the supply and purchase of LCD panels with a goal of enhancing the competitiveness of both companies. The agreement also allows Sony and Samsung to continue cooperative engineering efforts focused on LCD panel technology.

For Sony, this transaction will enable it to monetize its shares in S-LCD and aims to secure a flexible and steady supply of LCD panels from Samsung, based on market prices and without the responsibility and costs of operating a manufacturing facility. With whole ownership of S-LCD, Samsung anticipates heightened flexibility, speed and efficiency in both panel production and business operations.

Established in April 2004, S-LCD has continued to deliver advanced and cost-competitive LCD panels to both of its parent companies, contributing to the expansion of the respective parties' TV businesses, and the large-sized LCD TV market overall. However, LCD panel and TV market conditions have now changed. In order to respond to such challenging conditions and to strengthen their respective market competitiveness, the two companies have agreed to shift to a new LCD panel business alliance.

The share transfer and payment are targeted to close by the end of January 2012, subject to necessary approvals from regulatory authorities.

As a result of this transaction, a non-cash impairment loss of approximately JPY 66 billion is expected to be incurred by Sony in the third quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012, due to the reevaluation of its S-LCD shares. This loss includes an impact from the fluctuation of exchange rate. Despite this one-time loss, Sony estimates that the transaction will result in substantial savings on and after January 1, 2012 in respect of costs associated with its
procurement of LCD panels. The current estimate of the yearly savings in respect of such costs is approximately JPY 50 billion, compared to LCD panel procurement costs estimated for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012. Neither the one-time loss nor the estimated cost savings were included in Sony's forecast of consolidated financial results for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2012, announced on November 2, 2011. Sony is currently reevaluating this forecast, taking into account this transaction and other factors that might affect its full year FY2011 consolidated financial results forecast.

[postlink]https://tenderhub.blogspot.com/2011/12/why-chrome-has-skyrocketed-but-safari.html[/postlink]

Apple_Safari

The past few days, there’s been a lot of talk about web browsers. The report that Google will be paying Mozilla close to one billion dollars over the next three years to ensure that their search engine remains the default for Firefox is fascinating for a few reasons. The biggest is that Google now makes a Firefox competitor, Chrome. And it got me thinking about Safari.

Remember Safari?

While Chrome has skyrocketed from 0 percent market share in August 2008 to over 25 percent last month, Apple’s web browser lingers somewhere between 5 and 8 percent, depending on what numbers you look at. While its growth seemed to stall out in late 2008/early 2009, Safari has been growing again since then. But it has been at a very slow, methodical pace compared to the Google browser.

Given the fact that both browsers are based on WebKit — a layout engine which was born out of Apple — why hasn’t it been Safari that has taken off, instead of Chrome?

The easy answer that most people jump to is Windows. Microsoft’s OS is still by far the dominant one even with record Mac sales quarter after quarter. But while Safari is usually associated with the Mac (since it’s baked into OS X), it has actually been available for Windows quite a bit longer than Chrome has been.

Safari for Windows was unveiled in beta in June 2007. It was formally released in March 2008. Chrome wasn’t unveiled until September of that year. Incidentally, it was Windows-only at the time. But it took Google’s browser just a year to surpass Safari in market share.

So if it wasn’t Windows, what else led to Chrome’s rise?

Another thing people often point to is speed. A number of benchmarks point to Chrome being the fastest browser available in terms of both page rendering and JavaScript performance.

But remember too that when Safari for Windows was announced, several of the same tests showed that it was the fastest browser available for both Macs and PCs (remember, Chrome didn’t exist yet). If this was just about speed, shouldn’t Safari have taken off starting in June 2007 similar to the way that Chrome did in September 2008?

On the flip side, most users throughout the years have complained that Safari for Windows more or less sucks. It’s been a long while since I’ve used it myself, but I recall it being somewhere between Firefox and Internet Explorer in terms of practical performance (that is, how fast it actually feels when using it, tests be damned). But Apple has continued to iterate on it and the latest version, 5.1, is still available on both platforms.

Others point to Google itself as the reason for Chrome’s rise compared to Safari. It’s true that Google does quite a bit of promotion for their browser, including on Google.com every once in a while. But it’s hard to imagine that being a bigger advantage then either IE or Safari which are both baked into Windows and OS X respectively. To get Chrome, a user still has to download something (unless they’re using Chrome OS — but if that’s the case, they’re already probably going to be using Chrome on their other machines). I would imagine that most IE and Safari users don’t download their browser, they use it because it’s the default that comes pre-installed on their machines.

Plus, Safari being bundled by default with iTunes for a time should have helped it gain massive Windows market share. But it would appear that many people downloading it simply weren’t using it.

Maybe it’s extensions that give Chrome the advantage? Maybe, but Safari has had them as well since mid-2010. Sure, Chrome’s extensions are better and much more plentiful, but if that is all that was holding Safari back, developers probably would have stepped up their game there. Plus, Firefox had extensions way before either Chrome or Safari and while they undoubtedly helped grow that browser, it’s also shrinking now in the face of Chrome.

With the launch of OS X Lion, it seemed as if Safari might be poised for a bit of a renaissance. Because the default controls were inverted, third-party software like Chrome was largely broken to begin with on the new OS. Safari also offered features like better multi-touch support and Reading List (which syncs between iOS and OS X Lion) which rivals didn’t match. But with a few months of data in, it looks like the Safari growth is still the same slow and methodical variety, likely rising simply as more Macs are sold.

Given the rise of mobile, it would seem that the massive usage mobile Safari is seeing might help Safari on desktops/laptops too. But again, the numbers don’t really suggest that. Safari is growing, but slowly. Meanwhile Chrome, which isn’t actually a part of Android — not yet, anyway — is skyrocketing without any sort of mobile presence.

Personally, I’m a Chrome user myself. I’ve tried a few times to use Safari as my primary browser (most recently with the OS X Lion upgrade), but I always end up switching back. To me, it’s still about practical performance. Things like: with a dozen or more tabs open, Chrome seems to perform in a way that Safari cannot.

Plus, I can’t live without the URL/Search Omnibox that Chrome offers. And I’m addicted to “pinned” tabs (browser tabs I always have open and are shoved to the left and shrunken down, out of the way from general tabbed web browsing).

It has been nearly 9 years since Safari was first formally introduced on stage by Steve Jobs at Macworld 2003. It has steadily improved and grown market share, but the rise of Chrome in less than half of that time has made Safari look a bit silly.

Of course, that could all change rather quickly if devices like the iPad really are the future of general purpose computing. On mobile devices in general, there’s no question in my mind right now that mobile Safari is ahead of what Google is doing. That’s why it’s odd that the opposite is true on more traditional computers.

And it’s not entirely clear why. Some point to Apple neglect — since the App Store has been such a phenomenon, they’re more inclined to throw resources at native work rather than web work, is the basic argument — but again, given the state of mobile Safari versus the other mobile web browsers, that doesn’t seem to be the case. It could simply be that Google’s Chrome team is really good at what they do, and nailed it from the get go. Good things happen to good products.

Why Chrome has Skyrocketed but Safari Hasn’t

[postlink]https://tenderhub.blogspot.com/2011/12/5-steps-to-search-google-more-accurate.html[/postlink]

Ever wondered how many websites are there in the world right now? According to Pingdom, it’s a whooping 255 million as of December 2010! A total of 21.4 million websites were created last year alone. Logically speaking, our search for websites should get exponentially tedious and difficult along with the years, especially at a time when access to information is more valuable than ever.

accurate efficient google search 5 Steps to More Accurate and Efficient Google Search

Surprisingly, we are still able to find the information we need most of the time, thanks to the effective and reliable search engine, Google. Nevertheless, with that much wealth of information out there online, it’s easy to lose ourselves and not get the optimal results we could have.

There are fortunately methods of searching to ensure that we are digging in the right holes, and below we will cover 5 essential steps that include tips & tricks to help you refine your search. Learn them all and get what you really want from the Google while not wasting your time flipping the result page!

1. 5 – 7 Keywords

Keyword searching is most often the first step to your online search. A common mistake made is that people often key in less than five keywords. Given that the Internet has millions of sites out there, the search results become diluted if you only input a few words.

5 7 keywords 5 Steps to More Accurate and Efficient Google Search

For those who may not know, normally search engines would return the results containing any of the keywords you typed in search form, regardless of the order they appear. Of course, Google, being a smart tool, would list the results in the manner where pages consisting of most of your keywords, or pagesconsisting of your keywords in closer proximity will be shown earlier. In other words, an intelligent ranked ordering for your results.

Ironically, if you want to narrow down your search to get more relevant websites, you got to expand on the number of keywords to about 5 to 7 keywords. That way, Google becomes clearer to what is it that you are looking for.

2. Using Truncation

Not sure of what keywords to use? You might consider using the simple * to expand on your search. What it does is that if you place that in the query, then you’ll get results for the word combination you’ve keyed in, with * as variant. For example, if you type in cartoon * tutorials, you will get sites with the phrase “Cartoon Character Illustration Tutorials”, “Cartoon Coloring Tutorial”, “Cartoon Animation Tutorial”, etc.

using truncation 5 Steps to More Accurate and Efficient Google Search

This would be beneficial to someone who is out there looking for ideas, but isn’t sure of what keywords to use. Let’s say you wish to research on the color of web design. You want to know what are the colors web designers or clients care about, thus you can try entering * color web design, and the results will show sites or its posts that are related with the query “color web design”, such as “Warm VS Cool Color Website Designs”, “Beautiful Purple Color Website Designs”, “Stunning Blue Color Website Designs”, etc.

3. Exact Phrases

Sometimes, you can narrow down your search by simply telling the Google to search websites with the exact order of the words. For instance, if you want to find out who quoted “The unexamined life is not worth living”, then it is preferable that you type the whole line rather than putting in keywords like “unexamined” or “living“.

exact phrases 5 Steps to More Accurate and Efficient Google Search

Quotation marks, ” “, should ideally be used if you want the search engine to only look for sites with exact phrasing. But as I mentioned in #1, search engines are capable of sorting the results in a ranked manner in accordance to how close the words are next to each other. You would probably still get your results if the quote is well-known.

At other times, you might want to use a combination of exact phrases and keywords to enhance your search. For example, you might want to search for sites that provide useful tips on leveraging social media for your business. Rather than using three keywords: “social”, “media” and “business”, you can type in “social media” business in the form and get more accurate results.

How so? “social media” is an inseparable entity, which makes sure that all sites listed must have the exact phrasing of “social media”. This is more useful than searching for “social” and “media” individually. “business”and “social media” have now become keywords that will be searched in any order of the wordings.

4. The “OR” And “-”

OR operator already exists in Google. When you type in any keywords, websites that contains any of the keywords will be displayed in the results. The difference with the OR operator is that you can define keywords or phrases with quotation marks rather than have the search engine search for all the words you typed in. This means to say that if you put “social media” OR “business”, you will get sites that consists of either “social media” or “business”, and not any of the three words per se.

or operator 5 Steps to More Accurate and Efficient Google Search

The minus sign,-, is useful if you wish to exclude a particular word or phrase in your search. This is valuable when you are searching for exception to what search results would typically produce.

Let’s say you wish to search for someone with the name “Bill Gates”, but not the chairman of Microsoft who we are all familiar with. You know that sites with the name “Bill Gates” would usually come with “Microsoft”, so using the - sign like “bill gates” -microsoft would bring you close to what you really want to find.

5. Search Within A Site

There comes a time when you know there is only one site which you need to search for something you want, but chances are the site has either a broken search function or a confusing search result. The worst case: the site has no search function at all. In these cases, Google prove to be very handy as it allows you to search within certain site, as long as the site is indexed by the Google.

search within site 5 Steps to More Accurate and Efficient Google Search

To search within a site using the Google, all you need to do is input the search query into the Google with the domain name, such as photoshop tutorial site:hongkiat.com. Google will then return the results only from the site you mentioned, such as photoshop tutorials only from the Hongkiat.com. Note that the site: must be added before the domain name, else Google will search for other sites as well.

It’s All About Refining Your Search

The above five tips are great by itself, but if you want a really customized and precise search, you should link a few of these steps together in a single search. This will ensure that those results you do not want will be sieved out, thereby enhancing your findings.

To further refine your search with these slightly complicated tips, you have to really know about what you want to search. You need to identify your keywords and consider what kind of phrase, word order, or special feature you need to use.

Be sure to try out every tip and feature covered above before you apply them in your daily search, so you know what are the best for certain conditions, and remember to keep the search query as simple as possible!

Samsung named the devices that were due to get Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012. They've now confirmed that the Galaxy S and 7-inch Galaxy Tab definitely aren't in line for the update.

According to Samsung's announcement, the phone and tablet lack sufficient RAM and ROM to run the new OS alongside TouchWiz and other "experience-enhancing" software.

Disappointing news for 10 million Galaxy S users out there — especially if you stop and think about the fact that the processor and memory specs of the Galaxy S are pretty much the same as the ICS-toting Nexus S.

Samsung skirts that issue by pointing to the fact that the Galaxy S has to run TouchWiz, carrier services, video calling software, and, in some markets, mobile TV.

Hope you weren't expecting anything groundbreaking from the latest leaks of Windows 8, because so far as we can tell, build 8172 looks just about like the build we toyed with back at... BUILD. That said, thesedo look a wee bit more polished than earlier betas, and there are a few appreciated shots of the store and a new look for settings. If that kind of nerd-speak gets you all hot and bothered, head on down to the source link with your eyes peeled.

Bill safe is a German technology company.EBay Inc said on Thursday it bought BillSafe, a purchase and invoicing technology provider with clients in Germany, and will combine it with its PayPal online payments service, in a move to strengthen its e-commerce capabilities in Northern Europe.
BillSafe's technology lets shoppers buy and receive an item and pay later once they get an invoice. It is the most common form of e-commerce payment in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland, eBay said.
EBay took a minority stake in BillSafe last year and now owns the entire company. The company did not disclose terms of the deal but said it would have no material impact on the financial forecast it gave in October.

Microsoft Corp. is pulling out of the International Consumer Electronics Show, the largest trade show in the Americas. It's joining Apple in saying that it prefers to put on its own events when the time is right to show off its products.
Microsoft said the next show, to be held January 9-12 in Las Vegas, will be the last show at which it has a booth or the CEO delivers the customary kick-off speech.
Company founder Bill Gates delivered keynote speeches at the show for 11 straight years. Current CEO Steve Ballmer has delivered the speech for the past three shows and will present his last next month.
The software company has been one of the biggest US supporters of the annual event, which gathered nearly 150,000 people this year. Originally focused on living-room electronics, the show has become the big annual US event for all consumer technology after the demise of big computer-focused shows such as Comdex.
Microsoft says it will continue to use CES as a place to connect to customers, but it won't have a booth because its product milestones don't align with the show's January timing.
At the upcoming show, Ballmer is scheduled to speak about the Windows 8 operating system. But the software isn't expected to be ready until late next year, so computer makers won't have any real Windows 8 products at the show.
"They're not cooked yet. So he's going to be stuck trying to present a bunch of stuff that will be months away from being ready," said technology industry analyst Rob Enderle.
Apple doesn't participate in trade shows at all after pulling out of the Macworld Conference & Expo after 2009.

In the midst of the global hard drive shortage going on due to flooding in Thailand, Seagate has announced that it has finalized its deal to purchase Samsung’s hard drive division. The move will cost Seagate $1.4 billion in cash and stock options, in addition to the 9.6% of company ownership that is being transferred over to Samsung. In addition, Seagate’s new partner gets to put one person on its board of directors to “deepen the strategic partnership” between the two companies. That’s a pretty hefty price tag, but Seagate can consider it money well spent for what it’s getting from the deal: a return to profitability.

Seagate has been on a steady downward trajectory for the past year. In the third quarter of 2010, the company reported it generated $503 million in profit. In the same period of 2011, that number was down to just $103 million — a sharp decrease to undergo in just a years time. Not something its investors want to hear, especially in light of the upcoming takeover of Hitachi’s hard drive division by Western Digital and the threat it represents to Seagate. Those reasons and market complexities forced Seagate to seek a suitor to join forces with. Samsung was the logical choice.

By partnering with the South Korean company, Seagate gains two key components to help its return to profitability: a long term customer to sell hard drives to and solid state technology that will help move the company forward into the next generation of storage. In the deal’s language it states that Samsung will buy hard drives from Seagate for its consumer computer division, which will both stabilize and inject revenue into Seagate’s accounts for the foreseeable future of the company.

With non-spinning media being the future of storage, it’s essential that Seagate makes sure it has plans to remain competitive with Western Digital in SSD development. The immediate benefit for Seagate in the deal is that it will use Samsung’s solid state memory in its hybrid Momentus drives, saving money since they will have the units in-house. In the long term the company will be able to build off the research Samsung has already done, hopefully ensuring that future development will keep them competitive.

A DEAL BETWEEN SEAGATE AND SAMSUNG

Adidas' miCoach Speed_Cell ($70) is a tiny device that fits inside a special soccer cleat—the shoe is called the adizero F50—and tracks your performance as you compete or practice on the field. There is also a version for runners and non-athelete fitness fantatics with a compatible sneaker. The device, which works with the free miCoach Soccer app for iPhones and iPod touches, can track a player in 360 degrees, measuring performance as average speed, maximum speed, number of sprints, total distance run, distance run at high intensity levels, total steps, and stride rates.

To use the miCoach Speed_Cell, you have to load it into a small cavity on the bottom of the special shoe. The device can store up to seven hours' worth of data, which it transmits to your account on the app; a version for Mac and Windows is also available. User accounts also include a minigame, in-app videos, and motivational messages.

Japan, one of the most advanced mobile nations in the world, doesn’t want to be a “cell phone Galapagos” anymore, at least when it comes to payments over NFC. Paying with cell phones is already ubiquitous in Japan, but now the country’s top three telcos (NTT Docomo, KDDI au, and SoftBank Mobile) are trying to switch from the Nippon-only Osaifu Keitai system to the Type A and Type B NFC standards used globally.

The problem for the carriers is that Osaifu Keitai (“Portable Wallet”), which is based on Sony’s FeliCa RFID smart card technology, isn’t compatible to the Type A and B NFC standards. Docomo, KDDI, and SoftBank have set up the so-called Japan Mobile NFC Consortium to coordinate the domestic adoption of those standards with “service suppliers and handset manufacturers”.

The background here is that with this move, the carriers are not only streamlining domestic mobile payment services but making it easier for Japanese handset manufacturers like Sharp or Panasonic to sell their devices abroad. In fact, Japanese business daily The Nikkei is reporting that handsets incorporating Type A and B NFC standards from Japanese makers will be released at the end of next year.

firefox-09-intro

The browser wars continue to simmer, and Firefox, once the tech world’s champion against the insipid tyranny of Internet Explorer 6, has been losing ground to Chrome. In fact, just a few weeks ago, one report put Chrome in front of Firefox for the first time, with both taking up about 25% of the market but within a point of each other.

Mozilla said in October that they expected their agreement with Google, by which Google is the default search engine in Firefox, would be renewed — but the internet was all a-whisper with the idea that Google might take this tipping-point timing to alter the agreement. That’s still a possibility, but at any rate an agreement has been reached, for no less than three years of continuing partnership. Mozilla doesn’t provide many details on its blog, but their next financial statement will likely prove very informative on that front.

It makes sense, of course: Google isn’t one to antagonize an organization that has been in most respects a friendly one, and which of course commands quite a bit of an audience. Originally, the agreement was supposed to be renewed in November, which suggests (but in now way proves) that the last month has been full of negotiation. Obviously the balance of power has changed somewhat and Firefox is no longer the up-and-comer but the incumbent.

As for the merits of the browsers, that’s for another article, and the features and strengths of Firefox and Chrome (and more niche browsers like RockMelt) will continue to shift.

The next few years will be key for Mozilla, and the Google partnership (which makes up the vast majority of their income) will provide fuel for the fire while they attempt to diversify and innovate themselves out what amounts to serfdom. To speculate about what might occur after the threes years are up would be silly, but I would guess that Mozilla isn’t going to count on having Google’s help after that.

Three Year Agreement for Default-search Extended by Mozilla and Google

Samsung YouTube on TV

Samsung launched "YouTube on TV" today, an app that brings 3D videos from the world's most popular video-sharing site to Samsung smart TVs. The service was announced at IFA in September, and Samsung promised it would be available by the end of 2011, so the release is just in time. 3D video content is still fairly difficult to come by, and the app is an attempt to fill that void with more than 8,000 "high-quality" 3D YouTube videos. Although Samsung's app should work anywhere in the world, YouTube currently only offers 3D video in North America, UK and Japan — the service should roll out to other countries in the future. We can't find the "YouTube on TV" app on Samsung's app store yet, but it should be available soon.

ipod nano watch

Both Apple and Google have independently spent the last year developing and testing wearable devices which will augment and extend the functionality of smartphones, according to a New York Times report. Like a more advanced version of the Motorola ACTV, these devices would send and receive data from your smartphone, which would act as the information hub — handsets would largely stay behind the scenes and users would interact primarily with these wearable peripherals.

Apparently, some Apple employees are even wearing and testing prototypes of these devices, one of which is described as a "curved-glass iPod" that wraps around the wrist and responds to commands using Siri. Meanwhile, Google's reportedly hiring designers from Apple and Nokia who specialize in miniaturization, and its recent purchase of Motorola could certainly bolster these efforts. There's no timeframe on this next step in smartphone evolution, but we're hoping to see something from both companies soon —iPod nano watches are cool, but would be even better if they could communicate with an iPhone.

GT Racing Google+

Google announced games for Google+ back in August, and now the social network is getting a boost from one of the largest mobile game publishers around, Gameloft. The company claims GT Racing: Motor Academy, is the first 3D, HTML5 racing game available on Google+. No other games have been announced just yet, but a Gameloft VP said the company is "excited about offering our games to Google+ users," implying that there will be more on the way. The game itself runs smoothy, though the keyboard-based control scheme leaves something to be desired. It's also worth noting that this game, which was already relaased on a number of platforms including iOS and Android, only runs in Chrome or Firefox — Safari and Internet Explorer users need not apply.

Panasonic, Samsung, SanDisk, Sony, and Toshiba announced today that they're teaming up to launch the "Next Generation Secure Memory Initiative," which is a new step in the DRM (digital rights management) saga. It's designed to allow users to easily (and legally) stream, download, and copy their HD content on "Android-based smartphones and tablets, TVs and Blu-ray products." This wouldn't be the first time that manufacturers built DRM into flash media — Sony's MagicGate and SanDisk's TrustedFlash come to mind — but this new effort is focused on HD video and has the backing of five big players in the industry. The companies say that they expect the technology to be present in flash storage and embedded flash products by next year. There's definitely space for a better DRM solution and a better way to view legally-purchased video on multiple devices — buying a Blu-ray disc only to find out you can only play it on your Blu-ray player or PC isn't the best experience.
